Join us for a reading and book discussion with Naomi Ortiz, author of Sustaining Spirit: Self-Care for Social Justice (Reclamation, $16.95).
In a unique self-care guidebook, highly acclaimed speaker Naomi Ortiz teaches readers how to navigate the physical, emotional, and spiritual exhaustion that comes with the work involved in being an activist. By inviting readers to examine their own mentality and practices, Ortiz invites fellow activists to share her methods of incorporating self-care into their work for the benefit of all. Drawing from over 30 interviews with social justice activists, Ortiz offers strategies for activists alongside poetic metaphors, her connection to the Sonoran Desert, intergenerational wisdom, and, above all, a critical reminder that we must care for ourselves in order to care for our communities.
Naomi Ortiz is a writer, poet, facilitator and visual artist whose work focuses on self-care for activists, disability justice, and intersectionality. Her articles can be found on websites such as the Feminist Wire.
