Arizona Drag Story Hour and Workshop
This event is brought to you in collaboration with the Institute for LGBT Studies - University of Arizona.
Join us for Drag Story Hour followed by a workshop discussing the purpose of Drag Story Hour and how LGBTQ+ art and expression can be used to build safe and welcoming environments for LGBTQ+ youth and families.
Arizona Drag Story Hour’s mission is to bring inclusive storytimes to the children of Arizona and their grown-ups. Drag Queens and Kings inspire children to be themselves through books, songs, and artistic expression. Guests will experience the diverse world of children’s literature and leave the storytime equipped with literacy skills.
Drag Queen Story Hour captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish, where dress up is real.
“Drag Queen Story Hour is a fun and important program that celebrates diversity… It encourages children to look beyond gender stereotypes and embrace unfettered exploration of self.”
