A Child of Books By Oliver Jeffers, Sam Winston, Oliver Jeffers (Illustrator), Sam Winston (Illustrator) Cover Image
By Oliver Jeffers, Sam Winston, Oliver Jeffers (Illustrator), Sam Winston (Illustrator)
$9.99
ISBN: 9781536221923
Availability: Backordered
Published: Candlewick - September 15th, 2021

I don't know where to start, this little book blew me away! I am, too, a child of books. Phrases of fairy tales I heard in my childhood still pop into my mind all the time, I pick up children's story books rather than books about Serious Stuff, and I believe that a vivid imagination is the best gift any child (or adult) can have or give.

This is a great story book - for new readers to learn about the magic of books, for experienced readers to remember beloved stories, and for anyone to get to live in the house of invention.

This is an impressive book! The beautiful illustrations speak for themselves and serve as an excellent starting point for a conversation about war; the current war in Ukraine and what war does to any people all over the world.

What I've found most important about this book are the suggestions that are offered in the back, for how to read a wordless book and how to talk about war with children.

Small Things Like These By Claire Keegan Cover Image
$20.00
ISBN: 9780802158741
Availability: Call or email to ask for estimate.
Published: Grove Press - November 30th, 2021

This book is the first by Claire Keegan that I've ever read and I am blown away by the captivating clarity of the language that immensely amplified the power and depth of the story.

On the one hand, I was shocked by the terrible historical issues Keegan addresses in her novella but on the other hand I felt surprisingly uplifted by the hopeful and soothing warmth, compassion, and pure humanity that Keegan created in her story of a family's Christmas celebration.

It is an emotionally challenging read but very much worth the heartache because it shows how strong we can be as humans and how important it is to follow our intuition to do good.

I look forward to reading Keegan's next book!

Published: Flatiron Books - March 23rd, 2021

Anna K is a fascinating, modern take on Tolstoj's classic novel Anna Karenina. In this well-written novel Lee takes all the drama, the emotions and the social commentary from 19th century Russia to the New York of today. This setting adds even more layers to the story and makes it easily relatable for all readers.

It's a great read for anyone who loves Anna Karenina or likes to get to know her story through a modern lens.
